loadreadyVAN SELLING, PREPARED.

YOUR NEXT MOVE STARTS HERE

Sell my van.
Start with the
whole picture.

The mileage. The working life. The terms behind a headline price. Get your van’s story straight before choosing how to sell it.

Arnold Clark advertises a free valuation and no admin fees; check its current eligibility and terms directly. The two offer calculations are fictional arithmetic examples, not buyer offers, market values or typical fees. Finance settlement and any other agreed deductions must be considered separately. We cannot value an unspecified van. Sources checked 6 November 2026.

CHOOSE THE ROUTE, THEN THE TERMS

Different ways out.
Different things to weigh.

Speed, effort and certainty are not interchangeable. Ask who is buying, when an estimate becomes an agreed offer and what could change after inspection.

Private advert

You write the listing and handle enquiries, viewings and negotiations. Compare advert costs and safety arrangements; an asking price is not evidence of a completed sale.

Direct buyer

A dealer or buying business may inspect the van before confirming terms. Check deductions, fees, payment timing and whether you must travel. This site does not introduce buyers.

Part exchange

Consider the replacement vehicle and allowance together. A larger allowance does not necessarily mean a better overall deal. Ask for each element in writing before comparing.

01 / DESCRIBE WHAT YOU KNOW

A useful brief.
No registration needed.

Record facts rather than guessing. Choose unknown when records are missing. Do not enter a plate, VIN, identity documents, bank details or anyone’s personal information.

Include load-area wear and missing keys if known. This is your description, not an inspection or an automatic condition adjustment.

LOCAL DRAFT / YOUR DEVICE ONLY

Van sale preparation brief

Includes your comparison and checklist. No account or contact details required. Review the file before sharing it elsewhere.

A clear description helps avoid talking past a prospective buyer. Separate documented history from recollection; do not call a history complete simply because a service book is present. Keep receipts private until an appropriate, trusted stage.

02 / COMPARE YOUR OWN FIGURES

The number after
the deductions.

Enter offers you have received elsewhere. No sample offers, market feed or valuation is supplied. Ask whether the amounts use the same VAT basis before comparing them.

Net = entered offer minus declared deductions. Include agreed fees in deductions, without counting them twice. This does not calculate tax, finance settlement or your final proceeds; obtain written figures separately. Blank deductions mean unknown, not zero.

DETAILS THAT CHANGE THE CONVERSATION

Tell the working story.
Keep the evidence separate.

A delivery van, a tradesperson’s panel van and a modified leisure vehicle can have very different histories. Describe actual use and specification rather than relying on the badge alone.

Make the description specific

Note wheelbase, roof height, gearbox and any fitted equipment when you know them. Explain whether shelving, roof bars or other accessories are included. If a conversion has been made, describe it without claiming an approval or certification you cannot evidence.

A mileage reading is not a complete maintenance record. Check whether your description matches the documents you hold, and flag discrepancies rather than quietly choosing the more favourable figure.

Ask what could change

For each real offer, ask how long it remains valid, what inspection is required and which assumptions it relies on. Ask whether transport, administration or payment charges are included. Record unanswered questions alongside the number; do not turn a provisional estimate into a guaranteed amount.

If one amount includes VAT and another does not, the worksheet cannot make them comparable. Clarify the basis with the buyer and seek appropriate advice for your business circumstances before entering figures.

Plan the practical details

Agree where a viewing would happen and what access is appropriate. Do not send identity documents or financial information to an unverified contact. Keep negotiations and changes to the agreed price in writing, and pause if the proposed process differs from what you understood.

03 / PUT THE LOOSE ENDS IN ORDER

Ready for a
proper conversation.

Use these prompts before publishing an advert or agreeing a handover. Ticking a box records your progress only; it does not verify ownership, condition or a safe transaction.

0 of 5 ready

Photograph the outside, cab, load area and known damage in good light. Avoid hiding faults with tight crops. Remove personal items and obscure identifying information before publishing images.

THE HANDOVER IS A SEPARATE STEP

Keep the paperwork
on the official path.

GOV.UK says to tell DVLA when you no longer own a vehicle. Its service explains the keeper-change process, vehicle-tax cancellation and what to do without a log book. Follow the current instructions for your circumstances rather than treating this checklist as legal guidance.

Before releasing the van or keys, agree the payment and handover process directly with the actual buyer. Keep a record of the agreed terms and sale. Finance, VAT, private registrations and unusual circumstances need separate checks with the relevant organisation or adviser.

BEFORE YOU GO

The straight answers.

How much is my van worth?

This website cannot tell you. Age, specification, mileage and history matter, but no pricing dataset is connected. The comparison tool only subtracts numbers you enter; it never applies condition pricing.

Can you buy or collect my van?

No. There is no operational buyer network, collection service or sale contract here. The form saves an enquiry only; it does not create an appointment or offer.

What if I do not know the history?

Mark it unknown and distinguish missing paperwork from confirmed missing maintenance. Do not invent dates or promise a buyer that unknown information has been checked.

Will my answers be saved?
